Understanding Critical Illness Insurance
Critical Illness Insurance provides cash benefits if you are diagnosed with one of many critical illnesses covered by the policy. It is usually offered as a rider on your existing Life and/or Disability policy, and can pay up to 50% of your premiums for the duration of the coverage term.
For example, if you have $100 per month in Life Insurance coverage, the critical illness rider will provide up to $50 per month for six months if you are diagnosed with a covered critical illness.
Critical illnesses most frequently covered by policies like this include heart attack, stroke, and cancer. Less frequently covered conditions may include Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, paralysis, organ transplant failure, diabetes requiring hospitalization, quadriplegia, or multiple sclerosis.
